On May 5, 2026, the Guild received the following email from a Junior girls scout troop – our Guild is honored to be contacted by and a resource for others:
Hi there,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my Junior girls scout troop. Right now, the girls are working really hard to earn their Junior textile knitting badge I’m actually the troop’s assistant leader, our leader is out this month(she just had a baby) and this is the first time I’ve taken over and I’m so impressed with this group and how diligently they are working together to earn their badges. Last week, we researched together online for some good info on textiles and knitting tips and your page: www.deercreekbasketryguild.org/learning-resources-free-patterns-and-conventions/ ….was so helpful to them we wanted to reach out as a troop to say thank you!
For a homework assignment I told the girls to go online with a parent/guardian’s supervision and browse around online for some more helpful knitting resources to bring to our next meeting. One of the girls, Rebecca, found a really good article: “Saving Money: Free Crochet and Knitting Patterns” that she brought to our meeting yesterday afternoon. She shared it with the whole troop and the girls decided together that as a way to pay it forward we should share it with you to add to the learning resources page as well since we used your other tips so much. It’s a great page with some fun and simple patterns for people new to knitting.
Would you mind letting me know if you do add it? I know it’d be super encouraging for the girls so I’d like to show them if you did. We meet again this weekend for a 2-hour knitting workshop 🙂

“Good afternoon, I wanted to thank the Deer Creek Basketry Guild for putting together your collection of Learning Resources, Free Patterns, and Conventions! My daughter Katie’s Girl Scout troop is currently working on their Arts and Crafts Fun Patch and the resources on your page helped us a bunch!
Katie’s troop leader encouraged us parents to work with our girls at home to ensure we stay on track! She asked the girls to find some fun, at-home activities for crafting like basket weaving.
